inspired by historical endpapers and wallpapers. Designs like this were called Papiers Dominotés, or Domino Papers. France was an active producer of these patterned papers, which were used as end sheets in books, coverings for books, and wallpaper. Papers like this would be printed one at a time on a hand press on hand-carved wooden blocks. We print each of them one by one with ink, then add a metallic powder brushed on top to the gold ones.
This was designed in collaboration with James T. Owens, III.
The white ones are printed on 100% cotton paper from Khadi Papers in India, handmade from recycled garment industry offcuts. Read more about our materials.
Prints are hand printed on our printing press from 1910 in our studio.
